It’s August and the Republican National Convention is about to be held in nearby Tampa. The outbreak of what is now known as SDS (sudden dementia syndrome) in Narvaez County is no longer just a local concern. The federal government, in the person of Special Agent Dante Garcia, is desperate to keep the problem contained.
Meanwhile, in Narvaez County, the campaign for Sheriff is heating up. Sheriff Watson is facing a serious Republican primary challenge from the Tea Party candidate. Captain Donna Parker, the consummate law enforcement professional, finds herself drawn further and further into politics. But her attention has to be focused on the SDS outbreak and the increasing encroachment of federal agents, scientists, and military forces.
Meanwhile, the Tampa based drug and prostitution ring is setting up for another shot at killing her.
At the same time, Donna and her lover, Paul McCready, learn more about the Miasma, and the mysterious land of Koth, where Paul reigns as a powerful warlord and Donna is Ba-el Shanah, the daughter of the Mother Goddess and the warlord’s concubine. How much of Koth is real, and how far should Paul and Donna go to model their real world lives on their relationship in Koth?
Is the Koth of the shared fantasy real? Is Paul’s newfound ability to enter the Miasma the key to solving the SDS outbreak?
Does Paul hold the key to resurrecting the fallen vampire? And is the vampire spirit the cause of the chaos in Narvaez County?
Can an alliance between a human and the vampires end the chaos?
Can Captain Parker keep the federal forces at bay while she tries to solve the mystery of sudden dementia syndrome? Does she have the support of the powers that be in the county? Can she navigate the politics of the Sheriff’s race? And does she have the resolve to follow her need for submission through to its logical conclusion?
