Most of the baby-boomer generation is either retired or nearing retirement age. I’m one of those boomers. This group of Americans had an incredible opportunity to acquire significant wealth yet many retire near poverty. As I approach the finish line, I suspect our education system is partly responsible for my generation’s lack of wealth. You’ll notice I said “partly responsible.” We can’t blame anyone but ourselves. We spent our way into poverty. Our desire for instant gratification and acquiring “things” during our working years can be summarized as obsessive. We were our own worst enemy.
This book is about the fundamentals of financial freedom. It is designed to provide young Americans a path to financial independence in a transparent and understandable manner. Don’t make the mistakes the boomers made. This isn’t rocket science. It’s really pretty simple: live below your means, stay out of debt, control the urge to spend, save consistently, invest wisely, and start early. Financial freedom is all about the basics.
