It’s bad enough DC Courte can’t concentrate on that novel she’s always wanted to write. But now, she’s receiving late night phone calls that are beginning to put a strain even on her sense of humor. She, also, is receiving weird poems printed to look like birds in flight and dedicated to the recently drowned. The problem is that she is receiving the poems before anyone finds the bodies.
A figure dressed like a wanna-be cowboy is stalking the streets of Indigo Falls, offering people a, “Fine night,” before dragging them off to the river. The list of suspects is alarming. Could it be the mad ex-boyfriend recently released from prison and eager to finish old business? Maybe it’s the veteran suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder who carries a beast around in his head. Or maybe it’s the town drunk/bouncer who is convinced that the crows have begun to demand, where has he hidden his wife’s body?
Whoever the stranger dressed in black is, he or she insists that DC needs to give up working on the newspaper she inherited from her father. This will allow her to concentrate on the biography of a serial killer. If she continues to refuse, will hers be the next body pulled from the river?
