In 1828, Britain is overcrowded, London is filthy and the lives of the poor are valued less than the city's rats. A Scottish Doctor meets a pretty young working girl while enjoying a night out on the town. Little does he know that their lives are destined to intertwine, even on the far side of the Earth.
