Handicapped without teeth, he's an outcast-but lovable with a heart warming smile, and eats sea weed. Tragedy, loss of love and home, abuse, lonely and afraid until a little striped tough sounding fish called "Sarg" becomes Gums life long friend, and helps Gums to find courage, which leads to freedom and happiness for many sea creatures. Confidence-a few tears leaves the reader a cheerful ending.
