Set in Barbados, the poems in Sun of the Son were awarded the Corson Bishop Poetry Prize, the Dorothy Sugarman Poetry Prize and the American Academy of Poets Prize at Cornell University. The voices in this collection incorporate the cultures and creoles of the islands, the remembrance and continuity of Africa, the influence of European and American writers, and mythologies from Old and New Worlds.
