Every man is a knight in shining armor to some damsel at some time, if only by accident. The detective business just means he sometimes gets paid for rescuing damsels. And it means there's always some sucker trying to kill him for it. That's not to say women are the bane of Joe's existence. But they are. A women saying "Please help me" is irresistible.
