Derrick Fitch,journeyman writer, aspires to literary greatness. Success eludes him. He toils on freelance assignments for airline, cooking and hobby magazines until, in a fit of gambling hubris; he becomes indebted to a violent, loan shark bookie. He seeks help from a friend and is enlisted into a vigilante assassin group who give him both guts and literary prominence.
