Courage and tenacity during the Spanish Civil War. English-born Robert Morán joins the International Brigade. After losing contact with him, his sister, Maggie follows him to Madrid. Her quest takes her to the battlefront where she is shocked to find her twin has changed. Then Maggie's own life changes when she becomes 'mother' to four orphaned children.
