Paris, today. Brian Macmaster, a senior journalist recovering from a divorce, takes a room at the Hotel Pavillon and immerses himself in the seedy side of the city's nightlife. He meets a girl like no girl he has ever met before and embarks on an affair. The tense action builds to a dramatic climax which sees government ministers ruined and a national scandal.
