I was born in Hungary and grew up under the communist regime. After I was married, my husband and I made the difficult decision to flee our homeland with our 2 children because we believed there were better opportunities for us elsewhere. The escape in 1987 was dangerous, stressful and the following months were also difficult while we waited in Austria to see where we could emigrate to.
