These stories, though from many religions, cultures, and eras were all told by wisdom lovers. In their original form, they had vivid central characters like Baal Shem Tov, Mulla Nasruddin, Lao Tzu, Buddha, and others. For this collection, David Jones has rewritten them around a central character, Sophia. Sophia is Greek for wisdom.Socrates, Plato, and other sages described themselves as philo-sophia, or lovers of wisdom.
