A True History of Mr. Scrooge and Mr. Marley

Did Charles Dickens lie about Ebenezer Scrooge and Jacob Marley? Is it even possible to lie about something which is, by definition, untrue to begin with? And if he really did lie about them, then what could he have been trying to hide?
