Mary M. Baker began writing this diary when she was twenty-three years old. It is the beginning of the Civil War and several of her town friends did enlist. All around her people are dying from various diseases, but life continued on. Mary describes daily life and what she and her friends did, be it going to school or church meetings, traveling to see relatives.
