PART I. THE DORMMATE STORY
Around 12:01 in the midnight. The room was quiet except the dragging of his steps could be heard. He placed the foam on the floor to lay down and continued studying his calculus subject in preparation for his Mid-Term Examination. He glanced down at his notes. He was trying to solve problems with corresponding formulas. One wa simple but for the other problems made him clench his teeth and groan. He no longer knew how. Later on, his eyes slowly closed and his face struck over the book.
The alarm clock rung that registered 6:30 a.m., he was surprised by the disturbing sound. While scratching his head, he immediately rose up to find the place where the clock was located. After he shut off the alarm on the table, he folded his malong (blanket) which was dampened with sweat and placed back the foam to the upper deck; then he performed some body flexes. He strecthed his arms, turned his head from left to right, and executed push-ups.
When he opened the window, the sun's rays scattered inside the room. He stared outside and a view that pleased him. The butterflies were hovering from one flower to another. The brown grasses were turned to green. On the branches of Ipil-ipil trees, the numerous leaves started to grow. He thought for a while; yet, he realized that El Niño already passed. As he put mark on the calendar which was posted near the window, he voiced out, “This day is a wonderful morning!”
