Disfigured from birth, Jack Burns is linked to a story of two infants found inside Edinburgh Castle sixteen years ago. One of them had a birthmark like Jack's and the other is buried in Greyfriars Cemetery. Confronted by a sister he never knew, he is propelled to a medieval future and finds an ally in Billy McCaul,a young man bent on rescuing his sweetheart from the brutal soldier he once trained.
