Zeke belongs to an older New York, a time when a man could find his way with his wits, his hands, and guts. Addiction, heartbreak and the darkness that finds them on the Lower East Side and in an old-school go-go bar stalks their every move as they do everything they can to stay together and make it out of a squat on the Lower East Side, and on to a better life that all three hope is still out there.
The novel opens in Brooklyn, and moves through a squat on the Lower East side to an area now known as NoLita. Zeke, his girlfriend and his best friend struggle to stay ahead of their addictions, complications and an increasingly gentrified world. Zeke keeps one foot firmly grounded in his Bronx upbringing, but finds that the world is not what he hopes it to be, and that even his girlfriend and his shapely best friend don't understand his worldview, and are doing some very alarming things to survive.
