“The problem with God is that 'He' is literally unbelievable.”

His world is turned upside down when the author realises that he has been 'Commissioned' to tell the truth about 'God' and to re-brand the defunct 'Image'.

There are three significant problems here, and the first is that he never really believed in any of the older brands. The second problem is more of a conundrum in that denial or refusal was never an option. Revelation ‘dawns’ on him with his recall that the ‘Commission’ was predestined, which made it impossible to refute. The third problem is the old paradox of the ‘Absolute’, especially when it refers to something as narrowly defined as ‘Truth’.

Also, and all logic aside, it does seem that this new 'God' has apparently one thing in common with the older defunct One(s), in that 'No' is not an acceptable response.

Recalling almost forgotten personal experiences that were at one stage quite traumatic, he is naturally wary of religions and their stereotypes. He insists that his journey must be ‘Purely Logical’ and must begin at the very beginning of human consciousness in order to circumvent any and all pre-conditioning to accept defunct god brands over thousands of years. He has a problem with theology, dogma and their mysticisms.

(All extremely unlikely pre-conditions that were - apparently anticipated and previously agreed!)

He is therefore free to unearth compelling and for him, startling revelations that point to an expanded but very credible alternate reality, which lies barely concealed under the veneer of the one in which we now live and in which humanity has already diverged into two quite distinct species. The Yin and Yang of Ancient Chinese Philosophy loses its abstract disposition to strike some very substantial chords.

In this extended but logical reality, real forces are apparently still engaged in a ruthless conflict. The prize for the survivors will bring them closer to long established evolutionary aspirations, while the other species must teeter ever closer to its ultimate extinction.

Evolution has taught us that it will only tolerate one human species, just as there can be only one God entity, because It would never tolerate the competition posed by another.

It also becomes clear that there was no coincidence in this quest not falling to someone of more noble stature. In order to be believed, the protagonist had to be someone with whom real people can readily identify and acknowledge as one of them/us.

We also learn as we read, that most of us were born on the same side of this eternal conflict and that we have stupidly grown accustomed to counting and burying our casualties, while remaining oblivious to the war raging around us.

So this is not a religious book. All religions were made by people and they are already very well documented. Their many mantras are not identical only because they have diverged and further evolved from a single origin to be presented again in different languages and ages, but they all lay claim our newly independent hearts and minds.

We people were made by 'Something Else', which must logically pre-date religion and life itself and also any terms and conditions the clerics might have subsequently attached to their dogma.
