A Ladder

After The Event, a world-wide calamity of major proportions, Roger Ames awakens to find himself in a nightmarish island of humanity where everything he ever learned about civilized living has found its way to the ash heap of time--of his time, now long gone. He is the alien. His truths become illusions and his illusions are then shattered. Is this new world real or is he now a part of a strange experimental reprogramming?

He is prisoner in sterile room with little more than rudimentary furnishings. There are guards on a twenty-four hour, four-cycle day, and there are questions--endless questions. Escape is not possible, not so long as he is unable to walk unaided.
