Family Betrayal: Lt. Joe Novelli, Homicide 5 Based on a True Story

"My brother's gonna do something, I don't know what. My mom's yelling at him, saying Matt don't." A woman's pleading can vaguely be heard in the background. There's the pop of a gun, then silence. A door slowly creaks. The cool, collected, 14-year-old Mindy Rodgers, that had been on the telephone to 911, suddenly terrified, screams a high pitched scream, "Matt, no, don'-" The telephone goes dead. At 3:38 a.m. it was the last time the world would ever hear the live voice of Mindy Rodgers.
Based on a true story, the names and location have been changed. This story is written based on the interview between the suspect and officers of the Dept. of Criminal Investigation, on court room testimony and depositions of the sheriff's deputies that cleared the scene of the murders of two adults and their three teenage daughters, and my own walk through of the house where the murders took place. The book cover is an actual picture taken near the crime scene, when sheriff's deputies discover the tire track leading to or from the crime scene.
