The Adventures of Cadet Lehner

15-year-old Paul makes his final decision to leave home when his Jewish friend, Eva, is taken away. The only way he can get away is by joining the army. His cadet school is evacuated and that's when Paul's adventures really begin. He survives the end-of-war-turmoils, but has to spend some months in a prisoner of war and disarmed enemy forces camp in Germany. It is there that he begins his career as a surgeon. After discharge Paul and his friend, Theo, explore postwar Germany by rail. Young, intelligent and lucky, they manage to get jobs at a US Army Station Hospital. They get by all the better with the little extra they make on the black market....
