Five Acres and a Creek

My husband and I share a dream of creating an off-the-grid home on Australia’s beautiful tropical Atherton Tablelands to grow our own vegetables, plant fruit trees, raise chooks, where we and our pets could live in harmony with our environment. We planned to create a B&B paradise where the kookaburras sang every morning. These are my unreliable memories of what happened on our tree change adventure. We found ourselves living in a lush rainforest sharing five acres with swamp wallabies, kookaburras, platypus, parrots, snakes, possums, leeches and very big bird-eating spiders as well learning how to live with the human neighbours.
