Just Looking (A Sorrento Short Story)

Alice is met by Melanie, the head nurse on the west wing. She smiles with her mouth but not with her eyes.

While Karen and Melanie go to finish the paperwork, Alice meets a couple of the residents, as well as Lily, a surly 15 year old who has been sent by a judge to complete community hours for shoplifting.

Will any of them persuade Alice to stay?

This story does not intend to make light of elderly people who are forced to leave their homes to live in retirement facilities. This story is about resilience and strength of character. Alice uses her sharp wit as she attempts to accept her fate and make the best of her new situation.
