Being diagnosed as having 'Fibroids' is a very common situation. Fibroids can be responsible for many symptoms in a female including but not limited to heaviness in pelvis, heavy periods (menses), painful periods, painful intercourse, urinary symptoms, and constipation. In some cases an enlarged uterus because of fibroids may even be confused with a pregnancy.
However, majority of cases of fibroids remain totally asymptomatic (without any symptom) throughout the patient's life and they are incidentally diagnosed when the patient is examined for an unrelated symptom.
In other patients fibroids can cause severe symptoms depending on where they are, what their size is and if they have become complicated.
Here are answers to ten commonest questions that I have answered for my patients.
