“Blindness” is set in an unnamed city in an unnamed country. The story describes the sudden attack of an epidemic that strikes the people of the city and makes them blind. The disease spreads rapidly and soon the entire city goes blind, except for the doctor’s wife.

The stricken people are sent to quarantine, an asylum for their treatment. The story describes how the affected people suddenly turn into violent, aggressive, and selfish human beings. They are divided into groups.

The doctor’s wife leads a group and takes care of them. She is not blind but she pretends to be blind just to be there with her husband.
