Cursed before he was conceived, Absinthe was born noble, forced into debauchery, then rescued by a father’s love. Because he was raised without moral guidance, he relies on the voudou teachings of his childhood to protect those he loves. Unfortunately there are others who’ll use that same dread magic to bring about his downfall.
When Étienne Vaurien, Marquis Delafée, returns to Nouvelle-Orléans after his estranged wife’s suicide, he discovers he has a son, given by his wife to his bordel mistress to be raised as a boy-whore. Absinthe’s very good at his trade and has a portion of the male population of the city enthralled. In spite of this, Étienne takes his son to France and declares him his heir.
Unfortunately, dark forces in Louisiana in the guise of a vengeful wife and a houngan priest are plotting Absinthe’s ruin.
