Pelican Smile

When Penny Leighton's father dies a huge hole is left in her heart, and it is a hole she has fallen into deeply. Feeling haunted by his memory and left out of the memorial by his widow, she becomes preoccupied with the need to know where his remains have been scattered. Penny's search lasts almost ten years, leading to a terrible discovery. Her errant step-mother has not scattered her father's ashes, as requested, but has placed them in the back of a wardrobe. Desperate and depressed, Penny breaks into her stepmother's new house in an attempt to steal the ashes and set her father's spirit free. Instead, she discovers how to set herself free—to forgive.
