For a while Carlota was Carlos and later she was Carlota again. She never said much about the months and years she was Carlos, her time of masquerade. Still, I knew Carlota first as Carlos—your quintessential man about town—and perhaps a year after we first met was when I got a chance to say hello to Carlota.
