Country Roads are Why I Moved Away

I watch his taillights forever on this road. I’ve done it over and over. That’s what I hate about the country. The roads are so long that when someone leaves, you have to watch them go until they vanish. Some people never really vanish, though. Some people stick around even after their truck disappears over the horizon.

I suppose I've been waiting for him to come home. We lived whole lives in abandoned houses, and now he's married and I'm gone for good. We always come back, though. We can't stay gone.
