The year is 2432. Technology has advanced to the point where perfect humans can be printed on biological 3-D printers. They are usually printed with low intelligence for various menial or dangerous tasks. Angeletta is a “porno print,” a category that exists for the pleasure of real people. But Angeletta is a special custom printout. She is beautiful, highly intelligent, well read, and specifically designed to accept pain as well as give pleasure. She was a very expensive item, and even came with her own whip.

Alan Steven is a manager of the bio-recycling plant on Europa. This division is responsible for printing of all biological printouts – from realistic food such as steak, to printed pet cats and dogs, to fully functioning humans. It also is responsible for recycling all biological material. Biological material includes of course end of life printed humanoids. The recycling of all biological material commences with being placed in a grinder, rendering it into fragments small enough for subsequent processing.

Humanoid printouts have a limited life, being just a few years. This is not a problem as the recycling process has now become very efficient, to the point that a printout is as valuable for their recyclable chemicals as they are for the function they perform.

The experience of seeing unconscious but otherwise complete humanoids being put into the grinder has desensitised Alan. Also he has suffered from a disastrous marriage.
