Mary Laronde is a spoilt young plantation owner's daughter from Louisiana who loves the thrill of being tied up and spanked by the masterful black labourer Samuel. But in these still unenlightened times of the early 1920's such interracial love is still deeply frowned upon and when Mary is sent to New York to stay with the beautiful, domineering Rita she soon falls into the clutches of the wicked stockbroker John Kain who is determined to take ownership of Mary at all costs.
