len kerrick,a disillusioned cop turned private dick,gets set up so he can set up some gangster,which results in crippling torture.adding insult to injury,he gets framed for murder and blackmailed to set up the same gangster again.the mystery isn't who's behind all this,the mystery's how he's going to get out of the fix he's in.the only way out is to pull off a double set-up,which gets him into another fix and the only way out of this fix is--yes,you've guessed--another double set-up.during the course of events he gets set up in concrete socks.how does he get out of that fix?for each lowlife he blows away another whole bunch of them crawl out of the sewers till he learns his lesson--shooting lowlifes isn't the answer.
