This new novel introduces crime reporter John Watson and his wife, Diana. Facing legal consequences from a stand-your-ground shooting in Florida, they move to Colorado and face more episodes of gun violence in their personal lives. We see how they successfully struggle with a cancer diagnosis that has stricken Diana while she is still a young woman. Unable to have their own children, they adopt a nine year old boy and a nine year old girl. Their daughter, Trish, loves playing soccer and does very well in school. Their son, Brian, grows up to become a disturbed young man with an uncommon fondness for guns. This new book is not about gun control. Rather, it shows the effect that random gun violence can have on a family and how important love and compassion in that family can be.
