Jordyn the Ohnyx of Hope

Jordyn is fifteen years old when the city she lives in is attacked by enemy forces and her best friend, David, is killed by a bomb. Overcome by grief, she doesn't even speak to her rescuer, who's no ordinary soldier. Only when a unique young boy named Arin speaks to her is her voice heard again.

She’s just become comfortable in a new city when it too is attacked. After making an escape, she and Arin flee to enemy territory, a place Jordyn feels she needs to go. The next morning, she is surprised to learn that the city she and Arin escaped from was miraculously saved by an ohnyx, a child with magical powers.

That ohnyx is Jordyn herself, which means one heartbreaking thing: she could have saved David. With this in mind, she uses her powers to save more lives. Before long, she learns about a spy in their midst. Then, a smuggled message changes everything.
