John Jones escapes a Wyoming winter on a Texas public beach, only to find that wilderness along the early 1990's Gulf Coast is merely an odd assortment of the semi-homeless, retirees, vacationers, trash, tar balls, wildlife, tides and dunes. Living in a van, struggling with marginal employability, he searches, often in vain, for solid answers to life's meaning. He finds instead value in fluid companionships.
About the Author:
Kirk VanDyke is a native of Ft. Worth, TX, currently living in Laramie, WY. He studied economics at Tulane University and the University of London, biology and entomology (PhD) at the University of Wyoming. Aside from this, he lived for years in a seemingly uneconomic manner as a transient, working seasonal and often marginal jobs, while living in a van or a tent in various public lands of the Western US. Figures on a Beach is his first published novel, not to be confused with a memoir, and is loosely based on his transient experiences.
