"PEACE BE WITH YOU" is the story of the fourth century Rome, when a Christian liberator, its 47th emperor, asserted his role of right person at the right time, to save the Roman Empire from imminent and total collapse caused by excessive taxation, civil wars, barbarian attacks, and corrupt politicians. This book is not intended to offer an exemplary parallel between Rome and Washington, DC, yet most all the similarities of circumstances and actions selected by the rulers, provide an amazing illustration for the basis of the dictum that those who ignore the mistakes of the past are doomed to repeat them.
In the context of military and administrative talents exhibited by the emperor Constantine the Great, his persona, and his convictions formed the object of many historians, yet the author was able to find many elements that define this historical figure on a different human plane. As the emperor who legalized Christianity, in 313, and legitimized the role of the church in public life.
Constantine the Great provided the last burst of energy the Roman culture.needed to survive for few more centuries. This period in history defined also, the elements necessary to bring slavery to an end, thus making room for the dawn of the Dark Ages, by reshaping the Western culture along the lines of new philosophical tenets based on Christianity.
Constantine the Great was not a perfect man and he never entertained such ambitions, yet both, his apologists and detractors assigned him spectacular qualities in order to define his importance for the period in which he lived. By reading this book it is relatively simple to see why
the posterity bestowed the title "Saint", upon his memory.
Is America following the example of Rome? Is the age of Christian martyrs upon us, again?
Is Constantine the Great returning to liberate the Christianity? These are questions that no one could answer at this time. .
