In the publication title: "I Offered My Soul for Fame," we were introduced to Stephen through his narration. As an unknown singer and actor, he craved what would make him happy. He joined a very strange cult in his quest for contentment. This is our first example of a frantic search for hope and happiness.
Stephen narrated thus: "I noticed a small beautifully engraved card with my name on it. The card had my time and day I joined the group. Then it read something like: no marriage, no babies, and no friends. I was too excited to care and why should I care for those things anyway. I believed with power, wealth and fame I would be very happy and get all the joy of life. I was right because from that point, fame, fortune and wealth practically pursued me. I was physically and emotionally suffocated by fans, crowd, press and paparazzi. They followed me everywhere. I purchased everything I wanted and ever dreamed of. Nothing was too much, too expensive, too detailed or too extravagant for me. I had managers for every aspect of my life. I did not have to bother about picking or making phone-calls or my clothes or making appointments for anything. All I wanted I got for people just gave at my request. I had beautiful things, women, people, inner-parties, respect and adoration. Even if I said rubbish, people will smile and say I was correct. I had fans that worshipped me and followed me around the world on their own expense just for a smile.
On my part, I attended the gathering, learnt about the secret lives of some of my most-admired people.
I became involved with the teachings of our gathering. When you have everything you have the opportunity to do what you want and when you want it. You never know how time evaporates when you are having so much fun. I received a call from a member that my anniversary of membership will be celebrated. I was too dazed to care. Exactly seven days to that day, I began to have weird dreams, deep depression and complete loss of joy. Nothing made me happy or pleased me. I could give-up everything for a few laughs and joy. My managers suggested changing my medications, kitchen, pleasure holidays but everything fell flat. As my mood deteriorated, my constant companions began to fizzle-out but were quickly replaced by another set of giggling yes-companions."
He ended up abandoning everything to start all over and accepted Jesus as his personal savior. The point of it all is that wealth, power and fame does not equal to happiness all the time. It is good to strive to be wealth, to have power and fame on condition they do not become our gods which we serve and worship them.
Psalms 31:24 - Be of good courage, and he shall strengthen your heart, all ye that hope in the LORD.
Please pray:
"My God, the Creator of all things visible and invisible, I beg for forgiveness related to ......... (Mention your request) in the name of Jesus. God of my salvation, hide me under your wings for you are the Lord of my life. My Father, I will exalt you above all things for you are the EL SHADDAI, the GREAT PROVIDER. You are my light and my Savior; whom shall I fear? You are the defender of my life; of whom shall I be afraid? Be glorified in my life. Hear, O Lord, have pity on me, and hearken to my request in the name of Jesus.
I diligently seek your face. O Lord, do not turn your face away from me, save me and have mercy. O Lord, let me not be ashamed, for I call on you. I will not be afraid in the name of Jesus. Be my helper, do not forsake me, O God my Savior. Father, overlook my mistakes for when evil-doers come against me to eat up my flesh or persecute me, they shall fall and be in disarray in Jesus name."
The essence of fear have shackled many and enslaved a majority. The feeling of contentment is simple yet difficult to reach. In a society where the parents are fearful for their children, staff afraid of their boss while the boss is wondering if the staff are conspiring against him.
