This little poem is about a friend's twelfth birthday. A lot of relatives were there, and a lot of them
were children, from 3-4 years old to young teens. It was Walter's twelfth birthday, and his mother threw quite a party.
Everyone was very happy, but something very unusual happened. Walter's aunt brought him a present. He loved presents, of course, but this one wasn't something that he wanted right in front of his friends.
You see, his aunt gave him twelve red roses, one rose for each year. Now, that would have been
a really good present for a girl, of course. But, Walter was a boy, and he was very embarrassed. That is the image intended by the words of this poem.
