Born two generations removed from slavery on a dirt road in Vermillion County, Illinois, Marion Schultz was just another little colored girl for whom society would have little expectations. Her memoir is a journey of love and faith. She was blessed with a loving, God-fearing mother and father who were able to point her in the right direction. Losing her doting minister father at the age of eight, the future for the “apple of his eye” looked dim, but when the whole Schultz family adopted her as their own, Marion made it through the trials and tribulations surrounding this loss.
