Anna Denton went to sleep in her mid-sixties, holding the warm red crystal in the middle of her palm.
She woke with a pounding headache, a screeching woman, some horses and a couple men carrying her over the hard packed sand toward a waiting row boat. And no sign of the crystal anywhere.
There were petticoats and a long skirt around her legs and it didn’t hurt when she walked.
Awesome dream! She decided, struggled and sent herself and the man carrying her tumbling to the sand. She grabbed up the sword and tried to remember everything she’d ever seen in a movie about brandishing the thing.
When the very good-looking man came riding across the sand on a well-muscled thoroughbred, she decided she really liked the dream and didn’t want to wake. But she did wish the woman would stop screaming and the headache would go away.
But when she woke, nothing had changed.
