Ani the Chef's Junior Cookbook begins a series of short narratives supported by actual photographs of the creation of one or more parts of a meal, and contains phases of that process, including, preparation, actual work and clean-up. The book was conceived and designed to provide young readers with steps of food preparation through actual photographs of Ani cooking. Below each photograph is a narrative in large cartoon type that describes what she is doing, composed in her own words. She reviewed each picture and decided what she wanted to say about it, in some cases, typing the words into the computer herself.
The book was copyrighted to Ani to enhance her pride, self-image and commitment to quality. Also she is aware that the income from these books goes toward her advanced education, whatever that turns out to be. This is a wonderful way for her grandparents (Greg and Liz Taylor) to encourage, participate and assist in her future. Those grandparents are publishers and authors in their own right, so the progression was very natural and their names are on the cover with Ani’s. Details are available through the classicaldoorway.com web site.
This book does not contain recipes, as in a standard cookbook; rather, it is an effort to inform, educate and entertain young people who enjoy food preparation or who are thinking about becoming a chef. Ani was 8 years old when she developed this book and it is designed for readers aged 7 and up. Ani decided that writing a book might be fun as she watched her brother, Gavin the Chef, create 9 Junior cookbooks a few years ago. This is her first attempt and she is excited about the next two cookbooks she has planned.
Emphasis is on adult supervision to ensure safety in all respects, including the quality of food. Ingredients used are "off-the-shelf" and brand names are visible, but no credits are provided. Adults are shown participating, and a family environment is clearly evident. These cookbooks are designed to share Ani’s efforts with other boys and girls who might enjoy learning to cook. Read with your child and enjoy the experience. Have fun!
