During the end of WWII, an extraordinary boy who is a savant is discovered by an American Intelligence agent in a concentration camp. This boy was witness to the death of his mother and father, and was rescued by an "Angel," a high-ranking, privileged Nazi inspector of concentration camps. The trauma of the boy's experience triggered something in his mind that allowed him to know what a person was saying aloud across the room, across the street, or across the globe.

His birth name was Augustus Felix Weber, now known as "Augie." Did the sinister man named Angel call him Augie, because it was short for Augustus or because it represented the German word "Augen," meaning "eyes," referring to Augie's ability to "see" through hearing what a person was saying miles away, as long as he knew the person's name. He was a savant and didn't even know what it meant. His former home was Regensburg; his current home was Flossenbürg Concentration Camp, but he was not a prisoner. It was 1945.
His life was empty, and he was surrounded by death and suffering, until he met Binga Mae Hubner, born in the same year as he was, 1931. Augie was a "kept youth," and Binga was an inmate, or prisoner, in the Camp. Could he save her? Could Augie escape his own entrapment? Did Binga sense his secret "gift," or was it still a secret?

This fictional novel is a love story set in the horrors of WWII between two very young, very talented children than spans the time from their meeting to very recent history and draws characters from the actual history of the past 70+ years, as well as those from the author's other works of that period. History can be strange, and who is to say that this may not have happened?
