Hunley's Dixon

America has always had heroes and during the Civil War, it was no different. Men moved past their very extremes and performed heroic deeds for their fellow soldiers, for their officers and for their country, as they defined it. Eventually, the Civil War would be over and the United States would heal. Those who were heroes became American heroes, and as such are being recognized. Lieutenant George E. Dixon was one of those heroes and is being recognized as the first American submarine Captain who, with his crew, sank a warship during war. Unfortunately, he was lost with his entire crew aboard the Confederate submarine, The Hunley. It is to this crew and their Captain that this epic poem is dedicated. Dixon did not do it alone and many others were involved in the effort. As a tribute to them, this story is unfolded.
