Who is Goliath? According to the first Book of Samuel chapter 17 from verses 4 to 7:
"And there went out a champion out of the camp of the Philistines, named Goliath, of Gath, whose height was six cubits and a span. And he had an helmet of brass upon his head, and he was armed with a coat of mail; and the weight of the coat was five thousand shekels of brass. And he had greaves of brass upon his legs, and a target of brass between his shoulders. And the staff of his spear was like a weaver's beam; and his spear's head weighed six hundred shekels of iron: and one bearing a shield went before him."
Giants are featured as creatures with extraordinary strength, muscle and physical abilities. According to the Book of Genesis chapter six from verses four to five, we know that they were called, "Nephilim." They flourished before the flood as sons of God that came unto the daughters of men. "There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown. And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually."
In short, giants represent problems that appear insurmountable. These problems bear a cruel attitude that may appear frightening, fear-provoking, terrifying and unconquerable.
That was what Goliath represented to the soldiers of the children of Israel.
