Harold C. Register is a 40 year-old, divorced, dull individual and he known it. So, he buys various things to enhance his image to himself, his friends and his colleagues These include large items, such as an airplane and a nice house; small items such as jewelry and quality clothing and even odd items, such as electric model trains. In a whimsical moment, he decides to buy a sailboat, a 34-foot Sabre from a marina in New Jersey. His girlfriend, a shapely, high-powered banking executive, is included in his list of items and she knows it. Together they go to see the boat, but his girlfriend does not expect her wealthy boyfriend to fall in love with the delightfully round female expert sailor who is tasked with demonstrating and explaining the boat.
