At times, we all behave contrary to the expectations of others and of self—often doing and saying things we never thought we would ever do, say, or were even capable of. Nevertheless, after time has passed, most people will take time to reflect on their actions. It is through reflection, where one realizes that he or she could have said or done things differently.
Some people, even after acknowledging the error of their ways and asking for forgiveness, experience such intense remorse that they experience feelings of depression. When unable to shake these feeling(s), sometime(s) they begin to think less of themselves. And, when unable to shake these thoughts, they may even progress to the point of imagining that: “There is no hope for me…my life is no longer of value.”
Sadly, if one continues on this course, he or she may become convinced that hope can only be found in ending it all, and thus progress to entertaining thoughts of suicide. Guilt, if not dealt with, can be devastating to one’s future. The good news is that there are ways to move beyond it.
Don’t Let the Guilt Kill You is not intended for all people at all times. If you consider yourself to be perfect, then this book is not for you. However, if you are like the rest of us who make mistakes from time to time, then this book is for you. Don’t Let the Guilt Kill You is not meant to be a therapeutic reference, as I am not a licensed counselor. However, it is meant to be a source of hope and encouragement for those who are struggling with feelings of guilt.
