Randy Rabbit Rides Rapids

Randy loves to ride the rapids of the Ocoee river in his kayak, but when there is no rain for several weeks, the river begins to dry up. Randy is not able to ride his kayak. He is so sad, he cannot eat or sleep. Even his bubble baths are not fun because they remind him of riding the rapids. When he see a small rain cloud in the sky, Randy lies in the grass to watch it grow. Later, when his mother looks out the window, she sees him lying in the grass with rain pouring down—he is grinning from ear to ear. In a few days, the water begins to flow again and Randy is able to ride in his kayak once again.
This is book twenty-two of thirty-one books in the First Phonics series by Betty Ward Cain. It helps a student learn the sound of an “R.” This program has been used in the classroom for many years with a lot of success in teaching kids to read.
