There is a time when each one of us have asked this question: "Has God abandoned me?" I have asked the question several times and I am asking again; "Has God abandoned me?" When we are faced with trials that appear enormous yet senseless we wonder if God has not abandoned us. Many times, I have cried and interceded on others behalf and asked if I am walking the long, winding, road, alone.
In my childhood days, we walked several miles to and from school. Most times, this road is lonely and you could hear the birds chirping away and a vehicle coming miles away.
In the mornings on the way to school, there are certain trailers that pass that route. We would wave and they would wave back at us. While returning after school, we also knew certain vehicles and trailers that passed on that road about the same time. Again, we would wave and they would wave back at us.
As children, we never felt alone on that long route because of these vehicles. We never asked for a ride and they never offered us one. Just the joy of passing on that highway about the same time was enough that we were not alone. As we all branched into our various private paths to our houses, we felt comforted that come the next day, we will take that same route to school and we will not be alone.
One day in school, I was given an assignment that could not be completed before normal closing hours. As I came out to the street, my friends had gone. I began to run and saw them way, way in front. I ran, I called out but they could not hear me. I began to panic. Just then one of those friendly big trailers came hooting and the driver waved at me. Then he did something that surprised me. He let out a gigantic hoot from his vehicle that could be heard far away. Thankfully, this cause my friends to look back and they could see me running to meet up with them. I was very happy when I met them. Now, I was no longer alone on the highway. For many of us, we appear to be walking on that highway alone, abandoned until we get that jolt of life.
