Off The Grid: The First Jake Goldman Novel

A powerful senator sets his sights on the 2016 U.S. presidency, and obtains funding for an experimental prison hidden somewhere in the vast, unforgiving Mojave desert, north of Los Angeles. The prison is supposed to revolutionize how society deals with criminals and terrorists, as well as help launch the senator’s presidential bid, if successful. The only problem is that the treatment of prisoners is unconventional, so the project must stay off the grid until proof of concept is certain. All systems were go until an unusually bright young man, Jake Goldman, enters the clandestine justice system after being wrongly convicted of causing a tragic accident. He struggles within the new system as much as the system struggles with him. The question Jake eventually faces is whether he was really in prison or simply laying in bed during a prolonged, accident-induced coma?
