Fishermen of Krondar

Enter a world of the future that is mostly water, divided by a thin band of land separating two oceans at the equator. Then get to know the Fishermen of Krondar and why they think of themselves as fishermen. The Fish, that makes them fishermen reveals itself openly during a massive sporting event held once a year, that draws professional and amateur fishermen from throughout the Galaxy. The objective of the sporting event is to harvest the "fleece," a commodity that grows on the noses of the Plattners, ancient, whale-like creatures indigenous to Krondar. The Plattners are cognizant creatures who inadvertently formed the basis for the event in order to be relieved of the discomfort of the accumulated fleece. The objective is to pluck as much fleece as possible during the event, and not only keep the fleece, but earn the solid gold prize as well.
The fleece is a highly prized commodity in that it is used within spacesuits to provide an almost unlimited source of oxygen. As in any contest, there are cheaters, gamblers, and unsavory people as well as those who relish the sport, the chase and the times. Casey, the main character, is an acknowledged superior fisherman but he also presents a negative image. He is divorced, unsettled, by his own admission too young to be old and at times too old to be young. Casey campaigns his ship, Flyer, and as usual, becomes caught between women and fishing.
